Francesca Meier, born in 1960 in Antananarivo, Madagascar, and raised in Switzerland, lives and works in Basel. Her heart, however, belongs to many cultures. Oriental weaving, Ottoman mosaics, and Moorish architecture flow into Francesca Meier's work just as much as the mysterious "Bleu Majorelle" of the French fashion designer Yves Saint Laurent. As a textile illustrator and fashion designer, she has been engaged with traditional crafts, fabrics, and colors—and with architecture—since a young age. Her interest lies in the art of how things are made and the stories they tell.
